In April of 2017 TRIO Programs moved locations from 20 Enterprise Street to 407 Gorman Street.

TRIO programs include Upward Bound and Talent Search which focus on college access services such as academic skill development, college admission assistance and ACT/SAT preparation. Additionally TRIO programs offer Student Support Services which include academic, career and personal coaching, development opportunities and financial and economic literacy education.

Executive Director of TRIO Programs Marsha Pharr explains the updated office provides better electrical infrastructure which allows for faster internet service and more efficient use of the student database. The move has also created access to more up-to-date audiovisual equipment.

The new location will allow for advanced telecommunication, improved conference calls and provide updated computer lab access for student use.

This year TRIO Programs is focused on four goals:

  1. Following through on Department of Education initiative providing mentoring and support
  2. Establishing an advisory board of parents and TRIO alumni
  3. Implementing development initiatives to fund raise for additional student programs
  4. Promote college-access to advocate for first-generation, under resourced and students from rural populations

Pharr believes the transition will be valuable for the program. “The TRIO staff has embraced the change for all of the positive benefits it creates in helping promote college access and assist our students to succeed.”

The office is fully transitioned from the move and is ready to serve the needs of students and the community. The new 2017-18 academic year is poised to be an productive year for TRIO, with eager and passionate staff and a new facility to match their enthusiasm.
