New Student Involvement Director Joins the Pack

NC State University and the Division of Academic and Student Affairs are pleased to welcome Dr. Jessica Murphy to the Wolfpack family as director of Student Involvement.

Dr. Murphy will provide leadership and vision for more than 700 student organizations including advisement for the Union Activities Board and Student Government, develop a vision for the Woodward Student Involvement Center, and work collaboratively with units like CSLEPS to enhance leadership development.

“Jessica brings a great deal of experience to the director role,” says assistant vice chancellor Justine Hollingshead. “From her experience at the University of Georgia as director of student activities to her work in assessment and university housing, she has a proven track record of developing students through their undergraduate careers.”

Dr. Murphy comes to NC State from the University of Georgia where she spent two years as associate director of the Tate Student Center and director of the Center for Student Activities and Involvement. There she designed programming to ease the transition of transfer students; she developed and supervised UGA’s Welcome Experience, which in its first year featured 200+ curricular and co-curricular programs; and she provided leadership with graduate research symposiums.

Student leaders, including Student Body President Jackie Gonzalez, are ready to welcome a new director to Student Involvement. “We have always appreciated the Student Involvement staff, and as students, we are excited to have Dr. Murphy join the team and share her experiences and leadership to all student orgs on campus,” says Gonzalez. “We look forward to seeing how she shapes and directs the Student Involvement Center in the coming years.”

Dr. Murphy began duties Jan. 8, 2018. Be sure to stop in the Woodward Student Involvement Center to welcome her to NC State.
