How will your own experiences on campus help you to support incoming students?

I am able to empathize with all of the feelings an incoming student has considering I was just in their shoes nearly a year ago!

What is the most important thing to consider when supporting incoming students?

The most important thing to consider when supporting incoming students is that each student has a different story and comes from a different background. NC State has an amazing diverse group of students!  Therefore, I believe it is important to treat each student differently. Not everyone is the same.

What piece of advice are you likely to share with incoming students?

Capture every moment. Try new things. Step outside your comfort zone. Take many photos. This is the time where people discover themselves, finding out who they are.  You are going to have the best time of your life. Don’t forget though, time flies when you’re having fun.

What are you most looking forward to about Orientation?

I am looking forward to interacting with the new students and answering any questions they may have. I am so excited to see a new group of students enthusiastic about attending NC State!

How will your experiences as an Orientation Leader help you in the future?

The Orientation Leader experience has already helped me before New Student Orientation has started! All of the Orientation Leaders have to take USC 223, a two credit hour course giving us the knowledge and skills in order to be effective Orientation Leaders. My public speaking skills were improved; I have greater confidence in myself when giving a presentation. Most importantly, I have learned the essence of professionalism.
