Bio

Since February 2023, Dr. Rhonda Sutton has served as the Assistant Dean for Professional Development at the Graduate School of North Carolina State University. In this role, she leads a team focused on enhancing skills in career readiness, communication, leadership, mentoring, teaching, and wellness. With over 20 years of experience in higher education administration at NC State, Dr. Sutton has held key positions, including Director of the Women’s Center, Assistant Vice Provost for Equal Opportunity, founding Director of the Office of Postdoctoral Affairs, and Director of Leadership Programs in the College of Agriculture and Life Sciences. 

For more than 16 years, Dr. Sutton taught graduate-level courses in the Counselor Education program at NC State. She is a licensed mental health counselor in North Carolina and has worked in diverse counseling settings, including higher education, private practice, and a mental health hospital. Dr. Sutton earned her B.A. in Business Administration from Appalachian State University and both her master’s and Ph.D. in Counselor Education from NC State University. Her career reflects a deep commitment to the professional and personal development of graduate students, undergraduates, postdoctoral scholars, faculty, and staff, showcasing her dedication to nurturing talent and potential in others.
